Originated from New York in 2005, frontman David Cummings recorded a demo and was given a record deal before the band, a three piece, was fully formed. Similar to that of The Killers, the music is mix of dance-pop-rock. Its third show ever was alongside Patti Smith and Sic Youth at Paris Fashion Week. The producers of the TV show Gossip Girl liked the band so much, its music was featured throughout one entire show. The Virgins have a sound that is rough, but not artsy or too punky, similar to that of Tokyo Police Club. Its songs are simple, certainly reminiscent of the 80s; Animotion’s “Obsession” comes to mind, and, of course with its three-minute punchy songs the band is not too far from fellow New Yorkers, The Strokes. Definitely an album for your iPod. Listen well.
